Albuquerque police investigating shootout as possible justifiable homicide
A shootout left one man dead and another hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds Friday night in Southeast Albuquerque.
Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman, said "the preliminary investigation suggests a justifiable homicide, but detectives are exploring all evidence."
Officers responded around 11 p.m. to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Columbia, near Avenida Cesar Chavez. Police found a man shot to death inside a vehicle at the complex.
A second man was taken to the hospital with "several gunshot wounds" and is expected to survive, Gallegos said.
"Homicide detectives interviewed several witnesses as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting," he said.
