An Arizona man has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man and his niece near the KiMo Theatre on Sunday.

Silvan Monarco, 22, a fugitive from Phoenix, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of shooting at a motor vehicle. He was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center early Monday morning.

Monarco is facing kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges in Arizona, according to court records.

On Sunday, officers were dispatched to the University of New Mexico Hospital to speak to a man who had been shot in the right leg, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.

The man told officers he was driving up and down Central with his niece and her boyfriend, when the couple had an argument and pulled over near Central and Third Street and got out of the vehicle. The girl’s uncle said he was inside the vehicle when he heard gunshots and saw his niece had been shot, police said.

The man called 911 and said the suspect asked who he was calling before shooting him and running away, police said.

Witnesses told police they saw Monarco shoot the man’s niece. Monarco ran down the street with the firearm in his hands after the shootings, witnesses told police.

A security guard told officers he saw Monarco inside the back of a Jeep pointing a firearm outside of the window and fired a shot, the criminal complaint states.

Police said they approached Monraco, who was walking down 3rd and Tijeras carrying a bag with a firearm inside, and arrested him.

It was unclear how severe the niece’s injuries were. She was treated at UNMH and was not able to speak with officers on Sunday, according to the complaint.
