An argument involving an anti-Trump sign in the Nob Hill area escalated into a “violent confrontation” on Saturday afternoon, but no one was injured.

Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said officers are looking for a driver who was involved in the incident that happened around 1:25 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the area along Central near Wellesley. The incident occurred a few hours before the attempted assassination of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.

Gallegos said two men told police they were displaying an anti-Trump sign in the bed of their pickup when a black vehicle stopped and two people started an argument.

Gallegos said the men in the truck told police the driver of the black vehicle exited and threw a bottle that hit one of the men’s legs. The man in the pickup told police he sprayed the driver of the black vehicle with Mace.

Witnesses told police the driver of the other vehicle came back and rammed the pickup from behind, nearly hitting a person who was sitting on the tailgate. The pickup was pushed forward and hit another vehicle parked on Central.

Gallegos said the driver of the pickup told police he took out a handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at the driver of the black vehicle. No shots were fired, and the driver of the black vehicle fled.

Police said witnesses captured video of the incident, and detectives have started an investigation.

Gallegos said anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 505-242-COPS.
