Man charged after hitting pedestrian with vehicle in Southeast Albuquerque
Albuquerque police say a man has been arrested after stealing a truck, hitting a woman and leading officers on a brief chase Wednesday afternoon.
Dylan Lujan, 31, is charged with great bodily harm by vehicle, receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing and leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm.
It is unknown if he has an attorney.
Gilbert Gallegos of the Albuquerque Police Department said officers learned a man — later identified as Lujan — hit and "critically" injured a woman in a crosswalk at Central and San Pablo around 2:15 p.m.
Gallegos said two vehicles were seen stopped at the crosswalk lights. A white single-cab vehicle was then seen speeding east before hitting the pedestrian and continuing on Central.
Gallegos said officers located the vehicle near Eubank and Interstate 40. With help from APD's Horse Mounted Unit, officers attempted a traffic stop, but Lujan sped off.
A sergeant authorized a pursuit and tire deflation devices to stop the driver, but he kept going, Gallegos said.
After a brief pursuit, Lujan drove into the Embudo Arroyo, stopping in a drainage tunnel. Lujan and his girlfriend, who was a passenger in the truck, were arrested, Gallegos said.
The injured pedestrian was taken to a hospital, Gallegos said.
