Bandelier visitor center reopens Saturday
The Bandelier National Monument will reopen its visitor center and Guided ranger tours will resume this afternoon.
The center was closed briefly after a type of lead oxide was discovered in the varnish on some historic furniture that was undergoing conservation work outside the park, according to a news release.
"A National Park Serviceindustrial hygienist conducted a variety of environmental tests and NPS staffunderwent blood sampling to determine if there was any threat to employee and visitor health," the release said. "All testsdemonstratedundetectablelevels of leador levels well below the Environmental Protection Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention thresholds for what is considered acceptable."
The visitor center has a museum where visitors can learn about Ancestral Puebloan history and culture, park rangers are on-site to share more information and a guided tour of the Pueblo Loop Trail will be offered at 2 p.m.
The release added phone lines are currently down, but questions can be sent to BAND_Visitor_Center@nps.gov.
