Bernalillo County is looking for community opinions as search for new county manager underway

UPDATE: Bernalillo County announced late Tuesday that the County Manager Search Committee meetings scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday have been canceled.

Bernalillo County is gathering community feedback to find out what the public wants in a new county manager.

County Manager Julie Morgas Baca will retire at the end of June. The county manager runs the county’s day-to-day business as its top administrator.

A search committee is vetting county manager candidates to present to the County Commission, which will ultimately decide whom to hire.

The search committee held two public meetings to gather feedback, last week and again Tuesday, and has two more meetings set for Wednesday and Thursday. Both will be at 2 p.m. in the Bernalillo County Commission Chambers on the first floor of 415 Silver SW in Downtown Albuquerque. The meetings will be hybrid, so people can attend virtually.

The search committee includes: Juan Vigil (chair), former county manager; Tim Cummins, former city councilor and county commissioner; Maggie Hart Stebbins, former county commissioner and New Mexico Natural Resources trustee; Yolanda Montoya-Cordova, former president of the Albuquerque Public School board; and Venice Ceballos, program operations director for Community Health Worker Initiatives.
