City Council candidate drops out of race, leaves one challenger
District 9 City Council candidates from left to right: incumbent Renée Grout, Melani Buchanan Farmer, Colton Newman. Buchanan Farmer announced that she had dropped out of the race Monday, leaving two candidates to vie for the seat.
Southeast Albuquerque’s District 9 City Council race is down to two.
First-time candidate Melani Buchanan Farmer dropped out of the race Monday, leaving the district’s incumbent and a lone challenger.
Buchanan Farmer cited “personal and family circumstances” as her reason to step back.
“Anyone who knows me knows that I meet challenges head-on and pour my heart into building stronger communities — but right now, my family needs my full attention,” Buchanan Farmer said in a statement.
Buchanan Farmer is the director of a running group for youth ages 10 to 13, called Run 505, and is the owner of a local CrossFit gym.
With Buchanan Farmer gone, newcomer Colton Newman and incumbent Renée Grout will go head-to-head in the November general election.
