Crews largely contain fire near Bosque Farms
Evacuations were lifted Saturday as crews largely contained a bosque fire in Valencia County that damaged multiple homes.
George Ducker, state Forestry Division spokesperson, said the Rio Grande Fire was 60% contained after burning through 59 acres in and around Bosque Farms.
More than a dozen structures had been touched by the flames, with at least three of those being houses, he said. The cause of the fire, which sparked Thursday afternoon, was still under investigation.
Efforts to tamp down the blaze were helped by rains and lower temperatures that moved through the area on Saturday and were expected to stick around into the night.
“Fire activity (has) continued to decrease, although interior heat was found in heavy fuels causing ember wash,” Ducker said. “Today, some resources are being released, and remaining crews will be focused on extinguishing interior heat.”
He said Saturday’s update on the fire would be the last notification “unless there are significant changes.”
