Crime Stoppers offers reward after Albuquerque buses shot with pellet guns
A Crime Stoppers bulletin shows Albuquerque city bus windows that were damaged by pellets in repeated incidents over the past two months.
Police are asking for the public’s help in finding whoever shot six ABQ Ride buses with pellet guns in the past two months.
From Oct. 27 to Nov. 17, multiple buses traveling west on Central, between Yucca and 59th, had their windows shattered and cracked by pellets.
“A total of six windows have been damaged with around 10 or fewer riders on the bus during the time of each incident,” according to ABQ Ride spokesperson Madeline Skrak.
In a Monday news release, Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers sought any information about the incidents and offered a $2,500 reward.
Skrak said the pellets resulted in $40,000 in damage. She stressed that nobody was harmed because of the pellets.
“Nobody realizes the pellets have damaged the bus until the bus driver inspects the bus following their shift,” Skrak said.
According to Skrak, there is a pattern of behavior that leads the Albuquerque Police Department to believe it is one person shooting at the buses.
Skrak said APD officers were able to determine the damage was caused by pellets, not bullets.
