Crime Stoppers release photos of 'person of interest' in gunshot outside Coronado mall
Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers released photos of a boy allegedly involved in a fight that ended in gunfire last weekend at Coronado Center.
Nobody was injured by the single gunshot on Saturday, which police say was fired outside the mall.
In a Friday news release, Crime Stoppers asked for the public’s help in identifying a boy in a Dallas Cowboys jersey pictured holding an object and grabbing at his waist while running near the mall entrance.
The release said the teen is a “person of interest” in the case, which is being investigated by the Albuquerque Police Department.
Another teen can be seen running near the boy, but it is unclear how he may be related to the incident. Nobody has been charged in the incident.
The Crime Stoppers release said anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (505) 843-STOP (7867).
Police said officers responded sometime before 7:15 p.m. to a report of gunfire at the mall. Witnesses told police a fight erupted in the food court, and then someone pulled out a handgun.
Police initially said it was unclear where the shot was fired, but later said they found a single bullet casing outside the mall entrance near the food court.
It was the second time gunfire happened at Coronado Center in the past six months.
On Nov. 24, Black Friday, the mall was evacuated after a 15-year-old boy allegedly pulled out a gun during a fight inside and fired at the building after running out to the parking lot.
Prosecutors offered the suspect in that case, Isaiah Montoya, a plea deal, and he admitted to one count of shooting at a dwelling.
The plea agreement calls for Montoya to be committed for one year to the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department.
