Double homicide suspect told Bernalillo County deputies a cockroach ordered him to kill
Alexis Hernandez
The suspect in the deaths of two men at a South Valley home Friday night told deputies an encrypted message from a cockroach told him “he needed to kill,” according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
Alexis Hernandez, 25, is charged with two open counts of murder. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
Hernandez was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on Saturday morning. The men who were killed have not been identified by BCSO.
Deputies responded around 10:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of Entrada Bonita SW, near Rio Bravo and Isleta.
When deputies arrived, Hernandez opened the door armed with a gun and a “Marine Corps saber” on his hip, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed in Metropolitan Court. Hernandez told deputies he was a Marine and there were two dead men inside the home.
Deputies detained Hernandez and found the two bodies along with two unharmed juveniles in the house, the affidavit states. During an interview, Hernandez told deputies one of the men, who he believed was his friend, had been stalking him and placing cameras in light fixtures.
Deputies said Hernandez told them he was also “hearing creepy voices coming from the vents” and “had been getting signs that he had to end (one of the men) before he ended him.”
Hernandez told deputies that on Friday he received “an encrypted message in a cockroach” that told him he needed to kill one of the men, according to the affidavit. He said he shot both men then went and got more ammunition from his vehicle before shooting them again.
Deputies said Hernandez told them the two juveniles saw him shoot the men and “he was not going to take the kids or do anything to them.”
