Find the schedule for Albuquerque high schools here as APS graduation is here
Seniors across Albuquerque will conclude their high school years this week.
APS graduation ceremonies are set to take place through week, both at Tingley Coliseum and at Berna Facio Professional Development Center. The district says it has been working hard to ensure the ceremonies go smoothly.
“APS has always really successful graduations, and this year we have some very large classes. We have worked extensively to make sure that the celebrations are enjoyable for everyone, and I think it’s just gonna be an amazing week,” said Leslie Coe, the Activity Manager for APS.
For seniors, graduation marks the beginning of a new part of their lives.
“I am feeling really excited about graduation. I’m really excited about the next chapter in my life. I also feel a little nervous because I just can’t believe that I’m done with school,” said Vance Coburn, a graduate from Eldorado High School.
For many graduating feels like a surreal experience.
”It feels like graduating was always so far away, but now it’s actually happening. I’m really excited to start this new chapter of my life,” said APS senior Kate Conrad.
”It’s crazy that something I’ve done every week, 7 hours a day, for the past four years is going to be over, and it doesn’t feel real. It’s probably not going to hit me until the fall arrives, and I’m going to college instead,” said Sienna Nordquist, an Albuquerque senior.
All traditional high schools will have their ceremonies at Tingley Coliseum, with three ceremonies occurring every day, at 9:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 6:30 p.m., except for Friday which only has ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Schools with smaller graduating classes will have their graduations at Berna Facio, at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday thru Wednesday.
The week will kick off with Albuquerque High, Rio Grande, and La Cueva at Tingley; and Nex+Gen Academy, followed by Early College Academy, at Berna Facio.
Tuesday has Volcano Vista, eCademy, and Manzano High Schools scheduled at Tingley; Berna Facio will host Transition Services graduates in the morning, and School on Wheels graduates in the afternoon.
Wednesday will see Cibola, Highland and Eldorado at Tingley. Also on Wednesday New Futures High School and Freedom Magnet School will graduate at Berna Facio.
On Thursday at Tingley, Atrisco Heritage will graduate in the morning, Del Norte will graduate in the afternoon, and West Mesa will graduate in the evening.
Finally on Friday, Sandia High School will graduate in the morning, and Valley High School will graduate in the afternoon, concluding the week.
