Input session for new Bernalillo County fire chief to be held Monday

Published Modified

Bernalillo County will host a community input session to gather feedback as it searches for a new fire chief.

The session is meant to inform the county about what qualities the community wants to see in a new chief and what priorities the candidates should have, according to a news release.

The input session will be held Monday, May 19, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Commission Chambers, 415 Silver SW, in Downtown Albuquerque.

A national search began in February after Bernalillo County Fire Rescue Chief Greg Perez was appointed deputy county manager. Since then, he has held the temporary title of acting chief.

“Chief Perez’s dedication and commitment to fire and rescue will leave a lasting impact on the county and the community,” County Manager Cindy Chavez said in announcing Perez’s transition. “We will now look nationwide to ensure that we find the best candidate to build upon the strong foundation he leaves behind. In the meantime, we appreciate his continued leadership as acting chief until a successor is selected.”

According to the county, Bernalillo County Fire Rescue has 16 facilities, including stations in the North Valley and the East Mountains, along with training facilities and substations.
