Man accused in 2020 Louisiana double homicide arrested in Albuquerque
After almost five years on the run, a man accused of fatally shooting two men in northern Louisiana was arrested on a warrant in Albuquerque this week.
Delarrious Jones, 32, of Monroe, Louisiana, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and failing to appear in court on an original charge of possession of marijuana.
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Jones on Tuesday morning in the area of Estancia and Bluewater NW, near Coors, with assistance from the Albuquerque Police Department and Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Marshals Service spokesperson Jim Glisson said.
Glisson said he is unsure how Jones got to Albuquerque.
“To all our law enforcement friends who helped us with this, we certainly appreciate (your) help,” Monroe Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Matt Schmitz told the Journal.
Jones was identified by a witness and through video surveillance, according to an affidavit for an arrest warrant filed at 4th Judicial District Court in Ouachita Parish.
At 7:20 a.m., Sept. 1, 2020, the Monroe Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at the Parkview Apartments in the 1100 block of Richwood Road, near U.S. 165.
When officers arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds bleeding and not breathing, according to the affidavit.
A person told police men were near a vehicle in front of the apartment when Jones shot one of the men before chasing down and shooting the other man, police said.
“It’s discouraging when someone is on the run for that long,” Schmitz said. “There wasn’t much (public) assistance or tips, but investigators were able to follow up with the help of other agencies and were able to find him. He can finally come back to Monroe and the families affected by this can get justice.”
