Man accused of killing mother in Northeast Albuquerque
A 59-year-old man is accused of killing his mother Tuesday evening at a home in Northeast Albuquerque.
Jayme Fuller, a Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, said James Colbert is charged with an open count of murder, failure to report a death and tampering with evidence.
She said Colbert allegedly killed his 83-year-old mother Marion, for whom he was the primary caregiver.
Charging documents were not available in online court records as of Wednesday afternoon.
"The investigation is actively ongoing," Fuller said in a news release. "Given the sensitivity of this case, we are limited in the details we can release at this time."
She said on Tuesday evening deputies were called to "a disturbance and potential suicide threat" at a home in the 12000 block of Palomas NE, west of Paseo del Norte and Tramway.
Fuller said deputies arrived around 11 p.m. and found Colbert "in a distressed state." She said the investigation led deputies to another home on Corona NE, near Ventura and Paseo del Norte.
Fuller said deputies found Marion Colbert, Colbert's elderly mother, dead inside the home "under suspicious conditions."
"The deceased has been identified as the mother of the distressed male, who was also her primary caregiver," she said. "This complex situation has prompted a homicide investigation by the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division."
