The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of a stolen UPS truck that caused parts of Interstate 40 to shutdown on Monday.

At about 3:15 p.m., deputies responded to a call of a possible violent crime involving a stolen UPS truck with the UPS driver still inside at mile marker 134, west of Rio Puerco, BCSO spokesperson Jayme Gonzales said in an email Monday afternoon.

Deputies followed the truck to near Unser where it stopped, she said. No one was reported injured and an unidentified man was arrested, Gonzales said.

"We are aware of the incident and are working with authorities to investigate," UPS spokesperson Becca Hunnicutt said in an email to the Journal. "We are thankful our driver is safe."

The incident caused eastbound I-40 at Unser to shutdown, according to BCSO social media post. As of 5:22 p.m., lanes partially reopened, Gonzales said.

"This is still an active scene as deputies work to collect evidence and confirm information," she said. "We will update further when we have more information."
