Man arrested in kidnapping and killing of Hobbs teen in Mexico

Mexican authorities have arrested a man in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a 17-year-old girl from Hobbs who traveled south of the border to meet up with friends, according a news release from the Chihuahua District Attorney’s Office.
The man, identified as Óscar Manuel M. A., 21, is charged with aggravated kidnapping of a minor. Authorities arrested him on Wednesday night in Tezonapa, a mountain town in the southern state of Veracruz, more than 1,300 miles from Juarez.
On July 16, the teen girl — identified by the initials DCLL.G. — left New Mexico to visit friends in Mexico, according to the release.
Three days later, the girl’s family received photos and videos of the teenager being held captive and texts demanding money in exchange for her safe release through WhatsApp, the release detailed.
On July 22, Mexican authorities found the girl buried in a shallow grave dug in a house patio, according to the release. An autopsy report showed that she was strangled.
Óscar Manuel M. A. was transferred to Juarez for a pre-trial detention hearing.
