The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating the death of a man who was struck and killed by a driver in Southeast Albuquerque Monday morning.

At 6:45 a.m., officers responded to a call of a disturbance and a man in the street who appeared to be struck near the 6400 block of Cochiti, near San Pedro and Central.

The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was taken to a hospital where he died as a result of his injuries, APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said in a news release.

The driver was detained and questioned, he said. Detectives are working with the District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.

“Detectives will investigate to determine the circumstances that led to the man’s death,” Gallegos said.
