Missing mother, son found safe in Taos County
A mother and son reported missing in northern New Mexico last week were found safe in Taos County on Friday, according to Santa Fe Police.
In an update over the weekend, the agency said members of the Taos County Sheriff's Office located 48-year-old Lindy Ziegler and her 6-year-old son, Odin, early Friday morning.
Deputies contacted the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department, who conducted an evaluation and "determined it would be in the best interest of Odin's wellbeing that he be placed in the custody of CYFD," according to a press release from Santa Fe Police.
The missing mother and son briefly became the subject of a missing persons investigation last Wednesday after friends they were staying with in the 1000 block of Don Juan Street in Santa Fe said the 48-year-old had "abruptly left the home with her son."
Prior to their location this week, Ziegler had been contacted previously by Taos police about a week prior, but local officers were unaware she and her son had been entered into the National Crime Information Center as missing, Santa Fe Police said.
The missing persons case is now closed.
