The annual TJ’s Seed Sack Largest Pumpkin Growing and Carving Contest took place at El Pinto on Saturday, with pumpkins big, small and spooky up against each other in the competition. In the free-for-all growing category for the biggest pumpkin, RJ Jio took the first-place spot with his pumpkin weighing in at a whopping 334 pounds. When asked how he did it, Jio said, “organically.” The massive pumpkin, named Dunkin “the no-spray” Pumpkin, took Jio three months to grow in the South Valley. The pumpkin included a tag that Jio put on it, claiming no pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers were used.
