Person on the run after police shooting in Hobbs
New Mexico State Police is on the hunt for a man who allegedly crashed into a Hobbs Police Department officer while fleeing and was shot at by "at least one officer" on Monday.
Justin Williams, 40, of Hobbs, is charged with aggravated assault upon a police officer, aggravated fleeing, criminal damage to property, leaving the scene of an accident and other traffic violations.
The officers are OK, according to a New Mexico State Police social media post.
At 2:48 a.m., Hobbs police officers attempted a traffic stop on a pickup driven by Williams. Williams then drove off before officers found the truck parked in front of a house in the 400 block of West White Street, near U.S. 180 and U.S. 62, NMSP spokesperson Amanda Richards said.
After a second stop was made, Williams drove off again, hitting a police vehicle resulting in one or more officers to fire toward Williams, who drove away, she said.
It is unknown if Williams or the vehicle were hit by the gunfire, Richards said.
There is also a warrant out for Williams for resisting, evading an officer and concealing identity, she said.
If anyone knows where he is, they are encouraged to call 911, Richards said.
