Police arrest third teen in July 4 homicide

Detectives arrested a 16-year-old accused of planning a robbery that left a woman dead last month in Southeast Albuquerque.

Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque police spokesman, said Luis Diaz was arrested Wednesday. Police say Diaz conspired with Lorenzo Lovato, 14, and Micalas McClendon, 15, to rob Alana Gamboa, 19.

McClendon told police he and Lovato tried to rob Gamboa when she fired at him and he shot back, killing her, near Columbia and Kathryn SE, according to court records.

McClendon and Lovato were arrested earlier this month and all three teens are charged with an open count of murder and armed robbery in the July 4 homicide.
