Police identify 'person of interest' after two people shot in Taos

Police have identified a "person of interest" in the shooting of two people Wednesday afternoon in Taos.

New Mexico State Police said they are trying to find Eduardo Castañeda, 35, in connection with the case. He's described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray hat, black shirt, black pants and shoes with white soles. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call State Police at 505-425-6771.

Amanda Richards, a New Mexico State Police spokesperson, said officers responded around 2:30 p.m. to a shooting along Espinoza Road.

Richards said in an email there were "at least two victims & the extent of their injuries is unknown."

"Details are very limited at this time," she said. No other details were given.

Around 3 p.m., State Police posted to X that residents along Espinoza Road should "shelter in place" as they searched for the alleged shooter.

"Please report any suspicious activity," the post advised.
