The end is nigh for drivers waylaid by waterline work on Carlisle Boulevard.

The north-south roadway, which has been closed between Constitution and Lomas NE, is expected to reopen Friday, said David Morris of the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority.

At about 12:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, a 24-inch concrete cylinder waterline broke in the 800 block of Carlisle NE.

The line was slated to be repaired last week, but due to delays in getting parts, the road closure extended over a week, Morris said on Tuesday.

The cause of the waterline break was a rupture at a joint where two pipes came together, he said.

In the meantime, he said drivers can detour on Constitution and Lomas to Girard or San Mateo.
