TAOS — The Taos County Sheriff's Office arrested a Taos man for allegedly shooting and killing another man in a residential area several miles east of town around midnight Friday.

Jonah Ward, 26, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and other felonies related to the death of 28-year-old Ramiro Quezada, who deputies found dead with a single bullet wound to the chest early Saturday morning outside a Toda Vista Road residence near Lower Las Colonias in El Prado.

"During the course of the investigation, the suspected shooter, who was leaving the scene, was taken into custody," Miera said. "The motive for the shooting is unclear and this is still an active investigation."

Court records show that Ward was arrested in a domestic violence case in 2022 and faced charges of false imprisonment and battery of a household member. The case was dismissed the following year.

Ward is being held at the Taos County Adult Detention Center as he awaits a first appearance in Taos Magistrate Court.
