The Albuquerque Teachers’ Federation has ratified its contract with Albuquerque Public Schools following Wednesday’s district board approval.

After months of negotiations, 97% of the 2,500 union members voted to approve the agreed-upon changes, which most notably allow new teachers to have a minimum of two workdays to prepare to begin teaching and increase compensation for some teachers’ work outside of classrooms.

The new contract runs through 2027.

The last time a negotiated contract between the union and the district went to the board, it passed on a 4-3 vote.

On Wednesday, the contract was unanimously approved without discussion by the APS Board of Education, as it was on the consent agenda.
