Teenager accused of crashing into woman while fleeing shooting near Del Norte High

Published Modified

Officers detained a teenaged boy after he allegedly struck a woman with his vehicle while fleeing a shooting Wednesday afternoon near Del Norte High School.

Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque police spokesman, said the woman "suffered minor injuries."

"Detectives tracked the driver of the vehicle to a nearby home where (the teen) was taken into custody," he said, adding that police are waiting to search the teen's residence.

Gallegos said police responded around 3:40 p.m. to reports of gunfire across from the high school in the 5300 block of Montgomery, east of San Mateo. Witnesses told officers a group of teens were fighting when two of them pulled out guns "and shots were fired."

"Officers did not locate any gunshot victims," Gallegos said.

As the group fled, a teen in a white vehicle struck a woman, he said. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call APD at 505-242-COPS.
