'Tis the treecycling season

Published Modified

Christmastime has come and gone and new year has been rung in.

But there might be one more holiday task left to complete: recycling the Christmas tree.

The city's Solid Waste Management Department, Parks and Recreation and Public Service Co. of New Mexico are working together to offer people a free way to dispose of their Christmas trees. The event runs through Jan. 11.

People can drop their trees off between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Eagle Rock Convenience Center, 6301 Eagle Rock NE.
  • Ladera Golf Course, 3401 Ladera NW.
  • Montessa Park Convenience Center, 3512 Los Picaros SE (closed Thursday and Friday).
  • Crews will grind the trees into mulch, which will be available for free while supplies last. Remember to remove all decorations, lights or other objects from the trees. There is a five-tree limit per resident and the service isn't for commercial customers.
