Today at the Roundhouse, Feb. 28
The 60-day legislative session is approaching its pivotal final three weeks. Here are a few bills to keep an eye out for, both in committees and on the floors, on Friday, Feb. 28.
Social worker pipeline: New Mexico would opt into an interstate compact for social workers under a bill up for debate in the Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee. The bill, Senate Bill 105, is one of nine different compact bills proposed this session with the goal of addressing a worker shortage in New Mexico.
Staffing ratios: A proposal to require minimum nursing staff-to-patient ratios in New Mexico hospitals is scheduled to be heard in the House Judiciary Committee. The bill, House Bill 72, would allow for exceptions, such as in the case of emergency situations, but has still drawn opposition from University of New Mexico Hospital.
Get your dancing shoes on: It’s officially New Mexico Speech-Language and Hearing Association Day at the Roundhouse. Lawmakers will also participate in the annual 100th bill party, an invitation-only soiree that is being hosted this year by two Albuquerque lawmakers, Sen. Nicole Tobiassen, a Republican, and Rep. Janelle Anyanonu, a Democrat.
