Today at the Roundhouse
Wrapping up an unusually warm February week in Santa Fe, here are a few things to watch out for at the Roundhouse on Friday, Feb. 7.
Public safety: Legislation on criminal competency and treatment goes before its second committee, House Judiciary, in the afternoon. The committee is also scheduled to hear bills on shooting threats and firearm possession.
Energy: The House Government, Elections and Indian Affairs Committee is hearing a few energy- and utility-related bills in the morning, with an 8 a.m. start. House Bill 91 would add two additional energy rates that the Public Regulation Commission could adopt to help low-income customers. House Bill 93 would require public utilities to submit advanced grid technology plans along with integrated resource plans.
Education: A bill to ensure immigrants aren’t denied admission to post-secondary institutions based on their immigration status goes before the House Education Committee in the morning. Other measures to update instruction requirements for math and reading courses are in the Senate Education Committee, also in the morning.
American Indian Day: The Senate and House will come together in a joint session for Native American Day. It’s also Otero County Day, with an invite-only breakfast in the morning and reception in the evening.
This weekend: The Legislature is starting to hold Saturday committee meetings, with the Senate Conservation, House Consumer and Public Affairs and House Judiciary committees meeting over the weekend.
