Two people are dead after a fatal car crash in the North Valley, Albuquerque police said on Monday.

Officers were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. Sunday to Candelaria and Second Street NW after receiving reports of a two-vehicle crash, Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos wrote in a news release.

"Two people in one of the vehicles died on scene," Gallegos wrote.

During their investigation, police learned that a Toyota Tacoma was traveling west on Candelaria and entered an intersection on Second when a convertible ran a red light and T-boned the Toyota, Gallegos said.

"The Toyota then struck into two additional vehicles that were stopped for the red light in southbound (Second Street) in the left-hand turn lane," Gallegos said.

The driver and passenger in the convertible died on scene, according to Gallegos. All passengers in the Toyota were transported to a hospital for treatment and are in stable condition.
