Two men sentenced in 2020 execution-style killing
Charles Robinson and Walter Eddings each get life plus 24 years
A judge this week sentenced two men each to life plus 24 years in prison for the 2020 execution-style killing of 33-year-old Antonio Jaramillo, who was found bound and shot in the head in his Northwest Albuquerque home.
A jury in October convicted Charles Jermain Robinson, 47, and Walter Palmon Eddings, 42, of first-degree murder, armed robbery and other charges in Jaramillo’s death.
The verdicts followed a weeklong trial in 2nd Judicial District Court before Judge David Murphy, who on Wednesday handed down sentences for both men.
Albuquerque police found Jaramillo fatally shot on Dec. 16, 2020, in a bedroom of his house in the 2600 block of Eighth NW. Jaramillo had been bound by his wrists and ankles and shot once in the head, witnesses testified during the trial.
Prosecutors alleged Robinson planned to rob Jaramillo and recruited others to help him.
Defense attorneys argued that the case against Robinson and Eddings relied on the questionable testimony of convicted felons who reached plea deals that required them to testify.
One of the co-defendants, Reyanon Duncan, 39, a longtime friend of Jaramillo’s, pleaded guilty in February 2024 to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and armed robbery in Jaramillo’s killing and faces up to 18 years in prison.
Another co-defendant, Gabriel Joseph Blea, 28, pleaded guilty last year to charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, kidnapping and other charges and faces up to 42 years in prison.
Prosecutors said Duncan arrived first at Jaramillo’s home and left the front door unlocked, allowing Eddings and Blea to enter the house, while Robinson remained outside.
Blea tied Jaramillo by the wrists and ankles, then began stealing electronic devices from the house, prosecutors said. Blea and Duncan were leaving the house, leaving Eddings alone in the room with Jaramillo at the time of the shooting.
