Water rescues necessary after latest flooding in Ruidoso
Crews performed two water rescues Wednesday after another round of flooding in Ruidoso.
The two separate rescues occurred at Cherokee Mobile Village and Friedenbloom Drive said village of Ruidoso spokesperson Kerry Gladden. No individuals were harmed. It is unclear how many people were rescued.
Gladden said the village has not issued evacuation notices and the water has already started to recede.
The Rio Ruidoso crested at 9.4 feet Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, after thunderstorms dropped between 0.5 and 1.25 inches of rain over the South Fork and salt burn scars.
A flash flood warning remains in effect through 7:30 p.m.
On July 8, the Rio Ruidoso rose to historic levels — cresting at over 20 feet — as floodwaters swiped houses and dragged debris into the street. Three people died in the floodwaters, including one man and two children. Less than 10 days later, the National Weather Service reported two water rescues after another bout of flooding.
