OPINION: Speak Up!

Land of Manana cartoon

If you are afraid of “WOKE” you are afraid of change, that is to say, life itself because it never stops changing. Relax. Wake up and live in the present. TW

Trump provokes anger so he can invoke the Insurrection Act that allows him to deploy military and federalized NATIONAL GUARD to quell civil disorder — meaning his troops can arrest and punish anyone “being disorderly.” To protect our freedom to criticize Trump’s government action, protest must remain peaceful. SC

Saturday saw numerous peaceful rallies all across the U.S. Republican congressman Steve Scalise called it “the hate America rally.” On the contrary, what could be more American than groups of people demonstrating that they are not interested in having a king. NO KINGS here, thank-you very much. EJG

Though I often oppose President Trump’s policies, credit is due: The GAZA CEASEFIRE ended bloodshed and secured the release of Israeli hostages. Well done, Mr. President. AM

If DONALD TRUMP used his vast wealth for good, can you imagine the accolades and prizes he would receive? JJ

We often see images of violence involving ICE AGENTS. Secretary Noem claims this is because agents are being attacked. However, often the accused attackers are released without charges or the government is unable to get a grand jury to indict. Makes one wonder who is doing violence to whom. AF

Either the Journal did not ask mayoral candidate Sanchez his position on SANCTUARY CITY status, or he refused to answer. It does not take much analysis to recognize that Albuquerque’s sanctuary status has been the greatest contributor to high crime and homelessness, the top two issues concerning voters. GH

I look around and I see so many old people. We are retired, many have kids retiring. So why are we kicking IMMIGRANTS, the people who are young and willing to work, out of the country? It makes no sense. And the brutality of ICE! It makes me sick. SS

I am proud that Albuquerque is an IMMIGRANT FRIENDLY CITY. I oppose any candidate running for mayor or City Council that would embrace ICE raids on our peaceful citizens. Anyone in Albuquerque who has brown skin or a Spanish surname is a target of the Trump administration. FD

Only in Albuquerque would the incumbent MAYOR CAMPAIGN on the fact that he is blocking ICE from pursuing illegal aliens. LRS

Regarding “Keller using advantages to outdo his approval rating and voter discontent” in the Oct. 5 Sunday Journal: I agree with everything except his suggestion that Sanchez drop out and give his support to DARREN WHITE. We don’t need to replace one bad mayor with a worse one, and a Trump supporter at that. FA

“I just need a few more years!” says the man who needed less than eight to drive ALBUQUERQUE into the ground. AN

While I was never a fan of ART, I disagree with mayoral candidate EDDIE VARELA, who would get rid of it. Same could be said about the Rail Runner (which I happen to love). Why throw good money after bad and rip up all that infrastructure? Both serve a purpose. RF

I regularly miss a bus connection because some ABQ RIDE drivers operate ahead of schedule, which is especially frustrating since my stop is a time-point with a pullout designed for buses to wait without obstructing traffic. BV

The city is trying to slow down traffic with SPEED CAMERAS. I have noticed that it’s actually working. Let’s fine people with no license plate or a darkened plate. The only reason I can think of for doing this is they can speed or it’s stolen. ECH

The DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP put on the full court press of opinions in Sunday’s Journal in which they touted what they have done for New Mexicans. What they really have accomplished is placing New Mexico last in everything that’s good. Seventy years of Democratic rule gets you this. Good work Democrats! KJ

NM governor’s implementation of UNIVERSAL CHILD CARE may be the best thing for reducing truancy in NM, which is likely because parents are not at home to see their children off to school. Sure the private child care businesses will have to compete but they would have to raise their standards. EN

Regarding “OPINION: Progressive rhetoric can’t hide legislative inaction” (Oct. 12 Journal): In response to Rep. Gail Armstrong’s article, I want to remind people that crime, poor schools, failed CYFD have to do with POVERTY. Making health care, grocery bills and public help (wildfire alerts, child care, etc.) more affordable will raise families out of despair and poverty. DA

Albuquerque officials need to learn the difference between HOMELESS and street people before they can actually help the homeless. Homeless people are on the streets due to life events. Street people are there by choice. KC

Back east, when the WILD FLOWERS fill the medians and along the sides of the highways, they leave them for all to enjoy. In New Mexico they immediately have people out there mowing them down. Also, street-sweeping is always on streets that need no sweeping. Total waste of taxpayer dollars. DC
