OPINION: Speak Up!

I cannot believe how disgusting our Democrat representatives acted when asked for a prayer for CHARLIE KIRK. If this is the type of respect that our representatives show, we need to replace them with someone who has compassion for those who have died. JMW

People, including many children, continue to die in MASS SHOOTINGS while politicians do nothing. It’s an unconscionable scandal and national embarrassment that this carnage rages on unabated. If they don’t stand for protecting their own people, what do they stand for? Gun worship is truly disgusting. Change now. MY

To the individual who is distraught about the Democrats trying to remove the SECOND AMENDMENT by going to the United Nations: First, you need to return to civics class. Abolishing an amendment requires two-thirds vote by Congress, followed by three-fourths vote by the states. The UN has nothing to do with U.S. law. CL

If Trump was interested in fighting crime in Chicago, he would not have cut funding for anti-crime programs. Trump is sending in the NATIONAL GUARD to exert his authority and power so that, should he decide to, he can send troops throughout the U.S . AF

The NATIONAL GUARD is currently deployed in Washington, D.C. President Trump says that Chicago will be targeted next. And after that, maybe Boston. Boston! Send all the Irish back to Ireland. All of Boston’s problems will be solved. No Irish! EJG

Please consider, Mr. President, renaming the DEPARTMENT OF WAR the Department of Peace in recognition of our legacy as liberators not conquerors. RL

Which part is the hoax? That EPSTEIN and Maxwell were predators? That these victims were abused? That dozens of powerful men were involved? Are all those a hoax? Or just the part about President Trump? BF

Why should our city continue with a SANCTUARY POLICY that residents never voted on? The only candidate for mayor who stands firmly against sanctuary city status is Darren White. It’s time for leadership that listens to the people — not pushes policies we never asked for. SR

In the dead of night, on a holiday weekend, the Trump Administration tried to DEPORT 600 unaccompanied Guatemalan children. How many Americans think this was acceptable? How many Americans voted for this? Why are congressional Republicans OK with this? JH

The reason DRUGS are smuggled into the U.S. is because this is where the customers are. CM

It is admirable for community groups to provide the daily needs and medical attention of the HOMELESS but that does not solve the problem they are facing. If anything it may exasperate the problem. What the homeless need is the opportunity to be a part of society again. GH

Regarding the Sep. 4 Journal: The Journal wrote a great history about our New Mexico STATE FAIR and fairgrounds. It made us proud. However, there was no mention that the governor wants to bulldoze it down, including Works Progress Administration vintage buildings, to build upscale apartments and establish the fairground who knows where. And with whose money? SD

Kudos to Dan Mourning! He has done a brilliant job making the New Mexico STATE FAIR a New Mexico state treasure. I am so impressed with the programming, food options, displays, cleanliness and staff. It was a joy to attend. KT

The governor’s office justified the outrageous 26% RAISES FOR SENIOR STAFF: “These seasoned professionals could command higher compensation in the private sector but choose public service.” They also chose the taxpayer-funded pay that went with those jobs. Go to the private sector if you don’t like it. BM

Regarding “OPINION: Republican guard rails needed for Trump” (Aug. 30 Journal): Finally! A REPUBLICAN who can see the emperor has no clothes. Although I disagree with George Sharpe on most things, his column on Trump was spot on. Our country needs more Republicans who can admit the dangerous path we have headed down. The Aug. 26 Cabinet meeting was beyond sickening. CT

From the Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo concerning no vaccine mandates: “You have sovereignty over your body, and that’s that!” What about WOMEN’S RIGHTS over their own bodies? JJ

Regarding “OPINION: Building the next revolution in tech, right here in New Mexico” (Sept. 7 Journal): “Building the next REVOLUTION IN TECH here in NM” talks about economic development but where is any conversation about how much drinking water each of these industries will take? SB

The abuse of young girls by JEFFREY EPSTEIN and others is horrifying, but what is also horrifying is the alleged cover-up by the government, banks and companies. We need answers about all of it and with Republicans in charge, I have no faith that it will happen. JH
