OPINION: Speak Up!
September 26, 2025: Holding the Line
People should boycott ABC for suspending JIMMY KIMMEL. This used to be a country of free speech. Now the only “acceptable” speech is that which praises Trump and MAGA. RJ
JIMMY KIMMEL was suspended for business reasons. Spreading hate and propaganda under the guise of late night comedy is not as trendy or profitable as it used to be. SM
They failed to show Kimmel’s original comment expressing condolences to Kirk’s family. Then President Trump and Stephen Miller go on to blame the left for the killing. Later, when KIMMEL suggests that the White House supporters look at themselves for blame, he’s taken off the air. Not fair. MH
Apparently, we have lost our freedom of speech in this country. The killing of CHARLIE KIRK was heinous, but people should be allowed to give their opinions of the man without losing their jobs. JH
Regarding “OPINION: Reverse cancel culture doesn’t honor Kirk’s legacy” (Sept. 21 Journal): Jeff Tucker had an admirable column recently about the importance of FREE SPEECH in American society as advocated by the late Charlie Kirk. I totally agree with him. Now I would like Mr. Tucker’s opinion on President Trump wanting his FCC chairman to censor talk shows criticizing the president. Un-American? RS
Threatening to use the FCC to revoke licenses from news organizations that are critical of the president is not “the marketplace” responding. Rather, it is someone that is extremely thin-skinned and threatened by FREE SPEECH. DWA
In this country, you’re INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. It’s one of the bedrocks of our judicial system. If we required every public official who’s accused of wrongdoing be removed, we wouldn’t have many politicians holding office, let alone officials appointed to serve important roles. Let the courts do their work. RB
TRUMP hates 50% of the U.S. voters since they didn’t vote for him or since they disagree with his decisions. Before Trump, our presidents tried to work with and represent our entire country ... not just those who voted for him. It is scary times when your elected president hates half of Americans. FB
At the memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk last weekend, PRESIDENT TRUMP said, “I hate my opponents.” That does not seem very Christian-like to me. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says: “Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you.” EJG
What do you do when you have a PRESIDENT who encourages insurrection, compromises the safety of Congress, and will not stop it when it happens? KH
Trump’s one campaign promise that I totally agreed with was to end DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME. Wouldn’t it be lovely if this fall were to be the last time we had to change the clocks? KJH
Over-the-counter drugs are powerful and require careful use. Considering their risks, might we rethink TYLENOL as prescription only, letting health care providers assess individual risks? Prioritizing caution over convenience could promote safer, more personalized care. SR
I have homeschooled all of my dogs, and now I am concerned about them becoming autistic. They all had rabies and distemper vaccines. Is RFK’s panel going to do the logical thing and ban these flawed VACCINES we are pumping into pets without their permission? Please save our pets! JB
Regarding “City to install ‘smart’ bus stops in International District to discourage loitering, improve safety” (Sept. 20 Journal): “Trash cans at each stop will come to $2,200 each.” Really? Which relative of a city official got the contract for these? Nothing ever changes. Time for new LEADERSHIP in Albuquerque. TC
Hey, Mayor Keller! I’m a taxpayer and I’m looking forward to the one time a year Albuquerque is cleaned up for the BALLOON FIESTA TOURISTS. There’s still a ton of trash, homeless and drug traffickers everywhere. Could you please hurry? The out-of-towners you love will be here soon. Thank you! AN
Fencing off the median between Louisiana and Juan Tabo is a positive measure for protecting pedestrians and saving lives. The cost of erecting these fences is well worth the effort and shows compassion for the vulnerable people that are easily forgotten and neglected. All credit to MAYOR KELLER. RF
The engineer who is RE-DESIGNING OUR STREETS is slowly getting the entire city down to one lane, increasing road rage and having cars cross bike lanes to turn. This is dangerous and ridiculous! CH
Surprise, surprise. TOM UDALL endorsed Deb Haaland for governor. He has deep roots in Democratic politics in New Mexico. If we elect her, we’ll have four more years of Lujan Grisham. The Democrats have controlled New Mexico for decades. What has that gotten us? SS
Oops. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said the quiet part out loud: “There are so many TRIAL LAWYER LEADERS in the Senate that it gets caught there.” We’re going to have to hold our noses and vote Republican if we are to ever have enough doctors and modern medicine in this state. ML
