OPINION: Speak Up!

TRUMP’S numerous uninformed actions are doing immense harm to our nation and the world. From ignoring climate change (promoting coal while defunding solar and wind generation) to weaponizing the government by expanding presidential authority in unimaginable ways, the damage mounts daily. Americans must wake up and act. WS

Can you imagine the outrage if VP Harris called anyone a dipshit? All this administration does is call citizens names like dipshit, vermin, scum, etc. Look at the way Trump talked to UNGA. He wonders why people don’t like him? You attract more bees with honey than with vinegar. BF

Trump’s speech to the UNGA was a total disgrace as he lied to the world and complained about minutiae and proceeded to sell his oligarchic views to the world. The nations should have walked out as he walked in. EN

At the UN last week, Trump bragged that he had brought down INFLATION, prices for groceries and electricity, and made the economy boom. However, the BLS reports that inflation, grocery prices and electricity are all up, as is unemployment. I wonder, for what country has Trump created this economic miracle? AF

ANTIFA designated a terrorist organization. It’s not an organization. It just means anti-fascism. Fascism: “A totalitarian government run by a dictator, emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and racism.” This administration is trying to dictate what we read, see on TV and school curriculum by using intimidation and fear. All fascist tactics. DD

Donald Trump addressed a large group of military leaders last week. He proposed using American cities as TRAINING GROUNDS for the armed forces. The plan is to enlist military resources for domestic purposes. A federal law, the Posse Comitatus Act, restricts the military’s role in law enforcement. Scary. EJG

I agree with KJH’s Speak Up of Sept. 28 — Trump’s one campaign promise that I totally agreed with was to end DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME. I sure wish NM would go along with AZ and end it. DC

Isn’t it peculiar that you can simply say he’s a vindictive, pompous, revengeful little man and 99% of the world will know who you are talking about. Stop the nonsense about Comey and release the EPSTEIN FILES. PP

NATIONAL UNITY is impossible as long as POTUS and his minions continue to blame the “radical left” as their preferred boogeyman. The right commits violence and POTUS started it with the Jan. 6 insurrection. He continues to rationalize and condone right-wing political violence. Is this “real unity” V.P. Vance? MY

Sens. Heinrich and Luján have just voted to SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT, a decision that is devastating to New Mexico families. Please put common sense ahead of partisan politics, and quit being a lap dog for Schumer. New Mexico lives matter!

I’m not a JIMMY KIMMEL fan. I’ve never made it through one of his monologues. But, he has my full support. And, ABC has my vote for pulling SEC football from the Sinclair markets. JPO

Regarding KIMMEL ouster: “We can do this the easy way or the hard way” (FCC Chair). Easy there Rambo. Yeah, we know you’re Trump-tough, but it’s not like you’re strafing Venezuelan gunboats here. The FCC is independent, and a nonpartisan gig in service of all folks. So act like it. RG

If it weren’t so serious I would laugh at the new ICE COMMERCIAL begging the APD to apply. They say they’re getting rid of the “worst of the worst — drug traffickers, gang members, predators.” Seriously? Do they think we’re stupid? Sorry, we’re paying attention to what you’re doing. JH

I find it interesting that those polled on issues of concern say CRIME AND HOMELESSNESS are far and away the leading problems. They both have grown in the last seven years of Keller’s leadership. Yet the same poll shows he is still the leading vote getter. What is Albuquerque thinking about? SS

A good employment rule for anyone is to leave any job after doing it for five years. That means that KELLER needs to move on. So vote for Uballez or Sanchez, but not for Darren White. We’ve already seen him in action. TT

Good news! New Mexican citizens will no longer have to pay for CHILD CARE. Instead, it will be paid for by the citizens of the state of New Mexico. KT

In an absolutely UNHINGED SPEECH to military commanders, Trump was clear about one thing. He intends to use troops on city streets, even though that is illegal. The question is – will they blindly obey? Their oath is to the Constitution, not the president. JH

It sounds like moving the STATE FAIR south to the Belen/Los Lunas area is going to happen. I wouldn’t drive there to attend the fair and I’m betting others feel similarly. The fair’s going to lose money and so will the fools who charge $15 for a funnel cake. RKD

You mean to tell me that the State of New Mexico, awash in billions, can’t find another $1.5 million per year to fund high-performing CHARTER SCHOOLS caught in meaningless struggles with politicians over ratings? NM educators and legislators, wake up! Work together, won’t you? RL
