OPINION: SPEAKUP!

In 1986 President Reagan signed into law an immigration act that made 3 million people legal. He also challenged Congress to fix our broken system. In almost 40 years little has been done and today Americans are fighting Americans. Fix immigration = not being re-elected. Sad but true. MU

I enjoyed reading Jeff Tucker’s column about the 250th Army Grand Parade as well as seeing the parade. Wonderful tribute to our soldiers. Want to thank Jeff for his service to our great nation. NL

The media is great at reminding us to be careful during red flag season, but seldom if ever investigates who is behind the many fires in New Mexico. The bosque fires are most likely the homeless and our forest fires could be at the hands of environmentalists. We need to know. GH

It’s prime weed-pulling time in Albuquerque! The ground is wet, weeds are small and have short, shallow roots. In one to two weeks, weeds will have deep, long roots, might be dispersing seeds, and the ground might be dry and hard. Now is the perfect time to pull those pesky weeds. JG

It looks like ugly buildings are planned for the Sawmill District. Whatever happened to beauty? Is brutalism the best we can do? DN

Please give us a break. Ads against Gabe Vasquez running constantly and the election is over a year away. The Republicans must be really worried or have more money than sense. There ought to be laws against these PACs that bombard us with scare tactics. CE

It is fair to say that some of President Trump’s appointees to high level posts have been puzzling. Frankly, Trump has just outdone himself. The new nominee for the terrorism prevention post is a 22-year old, just one year out of college with zero relevant political experience. EJG.

A new COVID variant is sweeping around the world, and is here in the US. But don’t worry, RFK Jr. has fired the experts that advise the CDC about vaccines. What could possibly go wrong? JH

The Trump administration has turned down providing FEMA funds for actual disasters, and now, during a hurricane season forecasted to be 125% more active than usual, it plans to spend a huge chunk of that money to build an immigration detention center in Florida. What a surprise. JH

George Washington crossing the Delaware is iconic and speaks for itself without him wearing a hat saying “George Washington Was Right.” Abraham Lincoln helped to abolish slavery and did not need a hat saying “Abraham Lincoln Was Right.” DD

Trump’s war has put service men and women in danger. No one person should be able to start a war. Why do we need to get involved in another war in the Middle East? Trump’s war will cause danger for Americans overseas and at home. No foreign wars! No Trump’s war. SW

NM needs to throw money at quantum space so start-ups can plan their fortunes? Look at the “principled” Tech Bros of today; in reality they’re shapeshifters. We’d be on the hook for temp-HQ, energy sources, then quantum firms would fly away. Insisting we rush to invest feels like a con. AH
