SpeakUp!: ABQ's answer to pigeon population is to cull them by snapping their necks

Published Modified

So, the latest "humane" solution to the city's PIGEON PROBLEM in Downtown is to lure them with food to be followed up by snapping their necks. To what depths has city government sunk to offer this kind of inhumane solution? Are our bird's expendable enough to be sacrificed for cleaner streets? DD

I don't get why a hazmat unit has to go in and clean HUMAN FECES at such a big price. Is there that big of a difference, between human feces and dog, cat and other animal feces? Nice contract though. MH

It's a sad state of affairs when the Albuquerque City Council must pass a resolution requiring the APD's social media staff to stop bullying citizens. Law enforcement should foster trust, not intimidation. This resolution highlights the need for professionalism and respect in all public interactions and a call for a NEW MAYOR and police chief. KH

As we exited University Stadium after our loss to Montana State, way back when, I overheard a faithful say, "They just beat the worst program in college football." Not anymore, GO LOBOS. Here is to a full stadium at the New Mexico Bowl. JNV

City Councilor TAMMY FIEBELKORN's attempt to force landlords to install coolers is nothing more than big government bullying private business. In the mild climate we enjoy here, the market should dictate the need for coolers. Units with cooling will cost more, so if renters want them, that will drive the market. GH

When will our citizens finally figure out that most of our problems with crime, drugs and unhoused begin with the BROKEN FAMILY. Imagine children coming home and having their children watch parents doing drugs, drinking, etc. and they’d rather point the finger to an elected official instead of themselves. DSR

So, state Rep. JAVIER MARTÍNEZ is going to "protect our people" from President-elect Donald Trump? How about protecting our people from crime, violence, child and domestic abuse, murder and assaults, drugs, etc.? Couldn't do a special session on crime but he's my protector now? Give me a break. How condescending and arrogant. ML

Regarding "New Mexico readies for Trump's second act" (Nov. 17 Sunday Journal): GOV. MLG accuses President-elect Donald Trump of being “punitive and reactive … extreme.” That’s a lot of nerve coming from a governor who imposed maybe the longest and most crushing COVID lockdown, and through her self-imposed "absoluteness of power,” attempted to modify our 2nd Amendment. JK

Regarding "New Mexico readies for Trump's second act" (Nov. 17 Sunday Journal): Sunday’s front page stated New Mexico Democrats are prepared to resist federal overreach. Progressive overreach at both the federal and state level is exactly why the Democrats lost the White House, Senate and House. JPO

Voters, when Democrat politicians complain about election results, they're complaining about you. Democrats are mad citizens want a SECURE BORDER. They're upset citizens want energy independence, angry U.S. citizens will benefit from tax dollars instead of Democrat pet projects and inconsolable they couldn't bully the country into a Democrat one-party nation. MM

It must be unimaginable for GOV. MLG to think that a man who had a worm in his brain has been nominated to become secretary of Health and Human Services, a cabinet position she once envisioned for herself. WT

What to look for with MASS DEPORTATIONS: the military cruising our streets, food prices rising with shortages and as crops rot in the fields or waiting for shipment, travel to become a luxury as plane and hotel prices become prohibitive for most, fired government workers replacing recently vacated positions. House Republicans are planning to block a newly elected TRANSGENDER congresswoman from using the women's bathroom in Congress. I guess it was never about school sports, was it? What are they afraid of? JH

Rather than show compassion toward their newly elected TRANS COLLEAGUE from Delaware, Republicans in the House of Representatives are trying to punish her by preventing her from using the bathroom. This is unfair, cruel and unhealthy for everyone, particularly the American public whose interests are not served by such pettiness. ST

Bad onions at McDonald's and deadly products from Boars Head? With RFK JR. as head of the Department of Health and Human Services, that will only be the beginning. What some call the "Nanny State" are attempts to keep dangerous products from your table. You will need to be very vigilant from now on, good luck with that. SP

Our newest bureaucrat, RFK JR., has been given his marching orders by President-elect Donald Trump: “He wants to do some things and we’re going to let him go to it,” Trump said. “Go have a good time, Bobby.” He'll head the Department of Health and Human Services. God help America. GEM

Democrat legislators are panicked about potential GOVERNMENT OVERREACH by Trump’s administration. This hand-wringing comes from the party of “vaccinate or lose your career”, “gotta drive an EV” and “transgender ‘care’ with no parental rights or notification." GS

Regarding "A sizable impact" (Nov. 18 Journal): Businesses employing undocumented people are BREAKING THE LAW. I worked for a company that hired Mexican nationals, their cards were checked regularly to make sure they could work. If the Trump administration were to pick and choose who was deported, accusations of discrimination would surely ensue. DC

Looking forward to Trump declaring that over 1 billion people attended the INAUGURATION. JL

Several commentators have been criticizing President-elect DONALD TRUMP for what they think he is going to do. Here's a novel idea: They should wait to see what he actually does, then slam him. CC

The dogs have caught the POSTMAN'S truck. Do they know what to do with it? Or will nothing of value be delivered anymore? TT

From NASA to university research across the globe, there is undeniable scientific evidence showing CLIMATE CHANGE is not only real, it’s happening right now: rising sea levels, warming oceans, polar ice melting, more extreme weather, seasons becoming warmer. A major cause: fossil fuel emissions. Action required ASAP for our kids. AJ

Regarding "Neanderthals couldn't reverse climate change. We can" (Nov. 17 Sunday Journal): Judith Polich’s column made a compelling case for exponentially greater GLOBAL WARMING action. The U.N. "Framework Convention on Climate Change" warns that current national plans “fall miles short of what’s needed to stop global heating from crippling every economy, and wrecking billions of lives and livelihoods across every country." What criminals deserve is much HARDER SENTENCING. Innocent people are still being hurt by being lax on crime. NC

Is it really necessary for the media to show videos of CAR CRASHES, particularly one where a child is killed? It's heartbreaking enough for families, but also for viewers. It's not something that anyone really needs to see. TC

If you don't smell SOMETHING BURNING, you are not in Rio Rancho. If you are driving the speed limit and people pass you like you are going backwards, you are not in Rio Rancho. AL

It boggles the mind that Putin, the aggressor invading Ukraine, can shoot missiles everywhere in UKRAINE and then he thinks it's escalation if Ukraine is allowed to shoot their missiles deep into Russian territory. Who is the aggressor? EN
