SpeakUp!: Eliminating personal income taxes in NM is a great idea
Regarding “New Mexico doesn’t need personal income taxes with state coffers overflowing with surpluses” (Jan. 21 Journal): What a great idea and letter. Why don’t the other representatives think this way? Could it be that the majority is just “TAX AND SPEND” Democrats? I’m sure it is. DAW
Regarding “New Mexico doesn’t need personal income taxes with state coffers overflowing with surpluses” (Jan. 21 Journal): state Rep. Gail Armstrong, R-Magdalena, is spot on concerning the exodus of MEDICAL PROVIDERS from N.M. Unmentioned is that folks are leaving N.M. to obtain better and timely medical care elsewhere, on top of getting lower crime, lower taxes, better education and a business-friendly environment. RB
Equity grants, keeping criminals from being deported, punishing rural N.M. with EV mandates, sponsoring “forever” welfare, sucking small businesses dry with regulations and taxes, it is no wonder why vacant buildings stay vacant and businesses go elsewhere? The N.M. NANNY STATE is at the bottom of prosperity ratings. GT
Our esteemed GOV. MICHELLE LUJAN GRISHAM asserts she is committed to public safety. Well, not enough to work with federal agencies to solve crime, but thanks for the continued lip service. JR
I hope Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and those who keep voting for her understand that there are those of us who really love the idea of removing violent ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS from our communities, and want to focus on protecting N.M. citizens. New Mexicans first — quit protecting criminal gangs. AN
SANCTUARY CITY Albuquerque; I still do not understand why we accept non-Americans and provide so much for them free, yet our homeless Downtown Albuquerque numbers are always on the rise. I cannot wrap this concept of why citizens feel it is alright to keep our borders open. CC
How disappointing that law enforcement officials in N.M. are openly defying a direct order by the president to allow ICE to remove IMMIGRANT CRIMINALS from our midst. The president has an obligation to keep us safe from foreign invaders and law enforcement officials are obligated to do the same. GH
If our state and local governments refuse to ENFORCE THE LAW and in fact impede others who are trying to enforce the law, how can we expect anything different from the people in this state? MS
Protect the 14TH AMENDMENT and, unlike convicted criminals, we can do it without bludgeoning police with flagpoles. KE
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP is all for law and order except when it comes to policing himself or his Jan. 6 supporters. DP
So much for the rule of law. A convicted felon PARDONS those found guilty by a jury of their peers of attacking law enforcement officers. JS
APD CHIEF MEDINA indicated that illegal immigrants don’t commit crime. Their first crime is entering the U.S. illegally. He doesn’t know who is committing crimes because police can’t ask about a person’s immigration status. Journalists reporting on crime can’t identify an illegal immigrant criminal because police can’t identify them. TMP
Why did President Donald Trump release the violent offenders from the JAN. 6 protest? Police officers were injured, some seriously. My brother, a police officer, feared for his life, was beaten and pepper-sprayed. I don’t understand President Trump’s lack of support for police officers who put their life on the line. SP
FORMER PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN has sacrificed, negatively affecting his political legacy to save his child from the horrors of prison. His son that almost died with his mother and sister, the brother of a son lost to cancer. What good father would not do such a thing if he could? NG
President Donald Trump’s INAUGURAL exceeded the boorishness, crassness, inaccuracies, and deadness of his first one. It read like an eighth grader’s rendition of a mob boss’ condemnation of his enemies. God help America survive the next four years of despair. BH
Instead of lowering grocery prices and cutting taxes like he promised, President Donald Trump proposed a new 25% TAX on coffee. Are we great again yet? TP
I’m a Democrat and I have no faith in our STATE LEGISLATURE to solve anything. I say this because of what they did during the special session: nothing. They did not try to rebut any of the outright lies, misinformation or disinformation of the Republicans during the presidential race. JS
It’s time Albuquerque put butts in the seats of UNM SPORTS so they can have a great athletic program. Colorado State University is half the size of Albuquerque and fills the football games. JD
So, SANDIA NATIONAL LABS CREDIT UNION has changed their name to Sunward. I was on the phone waiting to make a transaction. Now, instead of waiting 15 minutes I was on hold for almost an hour before I hung up. Hire more people. Lousy customer service. MAP
It would be nice if VEXUS FIBER would finish all the work they started in 2024 before digging even more holes in sidewalks, curbs and bike paths. BV
Regarding “NM can’t afford more ‘feel good’ CLIMATE LAWS that have no tangible impact” (Jan. 24 Journal): What a short-sighted and ill-conceived column. One state has little effect on climate change so no one should do anything? This small thinking and greed got us in the situation we are in and will make it impossible to get out. TW
Regarding “NM can’t afford more ‘feel good’ climate laws that have no tangible impact” (Jan. 24 Journal): state Rep. Stefani Lord, R-Sandia Park, is right on. N.M. can’t afford more “feel good” climate laws that have no tangible impact. N.M.’s biggest fires were caused by careless government bureaucrats, not CLIMATE CHANGE. The economic pain of laws will be felt beyond today. KKW
