SpeakUp!: Frustrations boil over with Gov. MLG's plan to move Expo NM

Published Modified

Regarding “Governor details plans to MOVE STATE FAIR” (Dec. 4, Journal): Gov. MLG, along with the support of Mayor Tim Keller, Senate President Pro Tem Mimi Stewart and House Speaker Javier Martínez, plans to move Expo N.M. — the Democrats ruin everything. I suspect that they will somehow manage to make a profit from this, and if not for themselves personally, there are probably plenty of others who expect a political favor. PKC

Regarding “Governor details plans to move State Fair” (Dec. 4, Journal): The Governor’s plan to tear down EXPO NEW MEXICO to build low-income housing is sheer lunacy. It will cost countless millions of dollars to tear down, rebuild elsewhere, and build housing. Why not build the low-income housing somewhere else? At least this harebrained scheme should be put to a vote of the people. FD

Regarding “Governor details plans to move State Fair” (Dec. 4, Journal): So, our governor wants to relocate EXPO N.M. Please don’t tell me we just wasted over $2 million in seat renovations at Tingley Coliseum. Typical government wasteful spending, it never ends. CH

The governor wants to move EXPO New Mexico from its location of over 85 years and develop the property into a residential neighborhood. I have one question: Why? GEM

Why am I not surprised that Mayor Tim Keller wants the State Fair to relocate to BALLOON FIESTA PARK, alongside the forthcoming soccer stadium? He can make that park even more unfriendly to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. This guy should be replaced next election before he gets another harebrained idea. DM

Please don’t move EXPO N.M. from its current location. Preserve the lovely buildings along Main Street. Keep the fairground’s location where it is. It has so much charm and would never have the same feelings nor crowds elsewhere. TK

Do you notice that when the governor and our senators brag about business in N.M. they never mention OIL AND GAS, which made a record $15 billion this year? We will always need petroleum; what do you think cargo ships and airplanes run on? KT

The up-close and personal STORIES OF THE HOMELESS open our eyes to the reality that most cannot appreciate. It also points to the complete failure of this current administration by allowing it to get to this point. There simply is no excuse for why more resources have not been utilized. GH

GOV. MLG is openly defying our newly elected president by welcoming illegal immigrants to New Mexico and offering protection from deportation. She does so from behind the walls of the governor’s mansion that is protected by armed State Police officers. MD

GOV. MLG’S Christmas list: Keep N.M. Democrats in power, consistent poverty levels, create a health crisis that forwards the Democratic Party agenda, continuing her unlimited political power at N.M.’s expense and total domination without representation. MLG’s tenure has been a Democrat queen dream and N.M.’s nightmare. MM

We need to add a question mark to ABQ RIDE because, after experiencing skipped routes each day this week, it sure is a question whether I can even get a ride from them. BV

Regarding “Turning it over” (Dec. 6, Sports): The sting feels like when our Lobo basketball team found out minutes before the NCAA TOURNAMENT loss to Harvard that Steve Alford was leaving, or when men’s soccer was shut down. All painful reminders for loyal Lobos. Next step, are we going up or going down? TC

UNM football will always be a failure because talented players and coaches who aspire to future championships and NFL jobs will inevitably leave. UNM should cancel the football program, bring back men’s soccer, convert the football stadium into a soccer stadium and lease it to NEW MEXICO UNITED. GB

Let’s do away with health insurance corporations that prioritize profit goals by routinely creating arbitrary reasons to DENY PATIENT NEEDS. Direct payment to providers would reduce health care costs and simplify the system. It would also save Medicare and Medicaid from threats. Democrats should seize this as an issue. WDS

I’m very concerned about the reported character flaws in President-elect Donald Trump’s CABINET NOMINEES. I am, however, not as concerned about their qualifications. That bar was set very low by President Joe Biden when he appointed Deb Haaland to run the 70,000-employee Department of the Interior. Her resume was thin. DA

President Joe Biden is considering FUTURE PARDONS for some of his administrative officials. Does this mean that Biden is finally admitting that his administration has been corrupt from the get-go? Looks like it to me. AR

President Joe Biden PARDONING his son Hunter was a good move. With the specter of President-elect Donald Trump hating the Bidens and his people in charge of everything, why would you throw your son to the wolves? Think about it. MH

Kudos, ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL, for the recent point-counterpoint Thanksgiving and Christmas columns by Jeff Tucker and Rymer Hewitt. They’re a bright spot of entertaining and thoughtful writing. Please keep ‘em coming, we need this kind of writing amidst the harder news stories. MT

Money is not the root of all evil, hate is, and there seems to be no lack of it in this country. I miss the world I grew up in where HATE WAS UNACCEPTABLE. LM

Why is nobody talking about the troubles at INTEL in New Mexico? CEO leaves on Dec. 3, stock is down 60% over the last three years, and the market for its chips is floundering. If Intel shuts down or starts laying employees off, thousands in the ABQ/Rio Rancho area better look out. MR

I find many SpeakUps questionable. They read more like POLITICAL RANTS using blame, insults, knee-jerk comments, comparisons and the like. If you don’t have a good reason to support your opinion, it’s probably not valid. If that’s “conservative voices” speaking, it’s not positive, convincing or persuasive. MY
