SpeakUp!: It's time to use the power of your vote to exert much-needed change in NM

Published Modified

Ten times the total of MIGRANT DEATHS in N.M. under the current administration in the past two years. Apparently, walls do work and save lives. How does that fit into the Democrat narrative on border security? Wake up people, you are being manipulated to the very end. Nov. 5th use the power of your vote to exert much-needed change in N.M. TS

Regarding “New Mexicans should be able to get the health care we need” (Oct. 19 Journal): I agree with Nicole Tobiassen concerning the LACK OF DOCTORS in New Mexico. I have been diagnosed with a condition, so I’m having to travel back and forth to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix and home. Thanks, Democrats for destroying health care in New Mexico. CP

Regarding “Voters should exercise great discernment in judicial retentions” (Oct. 20 Sunday Journal): Thanks, Albuquerque Journal Editorial Board for giving some guidance on the retentions of judges in the upcoming election. Some of these judges must be replaced and that will only happen when a concerned citizenry does some due diligence and weeds out the bad apples who are FAILING US AND CRIME VICTIMS. DC

Regarding “Voters should exercise great discernment in judicial retentions” (Oct. 20 Sunday Journal): The editorial on JUDGE RETENTIONS was just what was needed. I have always appreciated the job the Journal does keeping us informed about our choices in local, state and national elections. Thank you, Journal. DB

Regarding “Voters should exercise great discernment in judicial retentions” (Oct. 20 Sunday Journal): I want to thank the ABQ Journal editorial section for publishing an article on whether or not to RETAIN THE JUDGES up for election this year in Bernalillo County. It irritates me that I am expected to vote for judges I know nothing about. So, thank you ABQ Journal. TJ

For most drugs coming over the border they are smuggled in by U.S. citizens. And most of the drugs coming into this country are coming in at legal ports of entry. Stop BLAMING IMMIGRANTS who are escaping horrendous situations and trying to save their own lives. JRH

I was distressed, again, by the CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS on the ballot. A Constitution must be sacrosanct and not changed randomly or easily as our Legislature is want to do. Most of the amendments proposed in the past few years should have been addressed through the legislative process. JS

Regarding “Bold action and reform needed to thwart exodus of NM health care providers” (Oct. 18, Journal): SEN. CRAIG BRANDT writes “… cost of malpractice insurance in New Mexico, which is the highest in the nation by far.” A google search to verify this doesn’t even put New Mexico in the top 10. How many other facts has he gotten wrong? DS

Supporting the UNM HOSPITAL mill levy on Nov. 5 will not raise your taxes and is one of the most important decisions we can make for our families and our city. Voting for is an investment in lifesaving care and state-of-the-art facilities for everyone. GHS

UNM CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL relies on the resources provided by the UNM Hospital mill levy to continue offering the amazing care our children need. That’s why I’m supporting the UNM Hospital mill levy on Nov. 5. The health of our children is in our control. KB

The funds from the UNMH mill levy help maintain the state’s most ADVANCED PEDIATRIC CARE at UNM Children’s Hospital, ensuring our kids get the best treatment without leaving New Mexico. BC

The only LEVEL I TRAUMA CENTER in the state is at UNM Hospital. Supporting the UNM Hospital provides lifesaving treatment. Vote on Nov. 5. LG

Putting an APD OFFICER, involved in the DWI fraud, on paid leave is like giving him a paid vacation. He should be fired, and no benefits paid. DC

Regarding “SOS up to election trickery again encouraging voter fraud” (Oct. 20 Sunday Journal): Jim Townsend would like for us to know about those who may be voting illegally so they can be prosecuted. Why is the GOP of New Mexico not going after the SOS? She is openly interfering in a FEDERAL ELECTION. GH

Regarding: “Recent SOS mailers made it clear only U.S. citizens may register to vote” (Oct. 23 Journal): Shout out to Maggie Toulouse Oliver’s letter setting the record straight on ELECTION INTEGRITY. Election-deniers spouting about widespread fraud have never had facts to prove it. Cheaters claiming to be patriots, but they are the opposite. APW

The DOMENICI NAME is not so hot. Former GOP Sen. Pete Domenici had to retire in disgrace when he was being investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee for interfering with a criminal prosecution being conducted by David Iglesias, the U.S. attorney in Albuquerque. VB

Is Republican vice presidential nominee JD VANCE‘s unflagging support for former President Donald Trump because he realizes that Trump won’t last a full term and will need to step down? A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for JD Vance. EJG

I don’t think anyone questions DIEGO PAVIA’S athletic ability, I think it’s more a character thing. His antics and his family’s aggressiveness has been on display since high school fighting in the stands, pushing through crowds, the UNM pee incident, etc. Try humility. CC

So, former President Donald Trump’s supporters would actually vote for a convicted felon? Someone who goes around calling people names? What name-calling did Reagan, Bush Jr. and Bush Sr. or Eisenhower use? A candidate who calls his competition ignorant? That’s who you would want as PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.? JL

Regarding “Trump, a president for free speech” (Oct. 20 Sunday Journal): McCutcheon stated former President Donald TRUMP’S BUSINESS success and protection of the First Amendment, really? Trump businesses filed bankruptcy six times. Trump Organization was fined millions. … . That’s not good business, nor free speech. DD

“60 Minutes” showed their bias in the way they edited the Vice President Kamala HARRIS INTERVIEW. Former President Donald Trump would have been foolish to go on “60 Minutes” and have them edit his interview. CB

Regarding “Trump, a president for free speech” (Oct. 20 Sunday Journal): how can former President Donald Trump be a successful businessman with ILLEGAL CHARITY FUND usage, failed university shut down, six bankruptcies, $25 million fraud settlement, $2 million charity abuse judgement, not to mention sexual assault allegations, indictments, impeachments, and convicted of 34 felonies? LV

Former President Donald TRUMP COULD WIN this election, and all of our government institutions will be under attack. What would that say about us as a country? Turn the country back over to people trampling on democracy? Or do have the capacity to solve problems and work as one country? NK

ELON MUSK is trying to buy the election for former President Donald Trump. Something is wrong with this picture. CM

Congratulations to Janet Boudreau, who had the idea to have school children design the ”I VOTED” STICKERS. They are delightful and such a great way to engage children in democracy. MLL

Social Security is supposed to be bankrupt in the near future, thus it is an election issue. Why not quit giving FOREIGN AID to countries that misuse it or whose people want to destroy the U.S. and then Congress could put money they “borrowed” a long time ago back into Social Security. MBB

We found the one guy who’s worse off today than he was four years ago: Judge orders RUDY GIULIANI, former New York City mayor, to hand over his $6 million penthouse and other assets to election workers he defamed. BF

Sorry, but that was the worst experience I ever had at a BALLOON FIESTA. Rooms were outrageously priced. Traffic was too much. Cost too much. No handicapped anything. The festival has exploded in recent years, find a bigger and better place. Also, my goodness the homeless population has gotten worse from north to south, east to west. Don’t think I will attend anymore. TE

Let me tell you which restaurant employee is being overpaid and should work for less: CEO Carol Wight of the New Mexico Restaurant Association, who wants to CUT THE HOURLY PAY for tipped servers because they’re being overpaid a whopping 45 cents an hour. RL

If LIQUOR PRICES are raised 20%, the panhandlers on the street corners are going to have to work an extra shift. KP

NEW MEXICO GAS is sending junk mail to customers and calling it a “Home Energy Report.” Whatever comparasions it uses, its report is a meaningless scare tactic; we know we don’t use six times the “average” home of our age and size. Stop feeling good and stop wasting money. FT
