SpeakUp!: MLG's sanctuary stance raises concerns about New Mexico's safety
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham plans to actively resist President-elect Donald Trump’s deportation of illegal immigrants. Why is GOV. MLG’S priority to harbor illegal immigrant criminals and cartel gangsters above the welfare of the citizens of New Mexico? We should be protected against these public safety threats despite MLG’s ideology. RSG
Just watched Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on MSNBC issuing an invitation, appealing to illegal immigrants with criminal records and cartel members, to come to New Mexico where she will protect them from DEPORTATION by our federal government. We hoped she would protect New Mexicans. Don’t we matter? JMH
The FIREFIGHTERS in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties are absolutely wonderful. These people are always professional and friendly when helping members of the community. What a wonderful group of workers. KC
APD appears to be struggling in part due to a LACK OF LEADERSHIP. Police Chief Harold Medina needs to retire or be fired. If the mayor doesn’t recognize this, then he has no clue and shouldn’t run for reelection. HJ
If we want to move forward in a positive way in our city, state and federal government, we need to fight for TERM LIMITS. Alliances made by our mayor, House and Senate members indicate that it’s time for change in order to improve our quality of life. TC
Have you noticed that since the election, the MAGA crowd has gone completely silent about ELECTION FRAUD? After all their earlier rants, it’s not a good look for Republicans. KH
President-elect Donald Trump is deliberately ignoring FBI background checks on his NOMINATIONS for critical posts in the U.S. government. This includes people who will have access to top secret information. JH
So, President-elect Donald Trump’s initial nominee for attorney general, MATT GAETZ, has resigned from Congress and withdrawn his name from nomination. As I understand it, he is eligible to return to Congress if he so chooses. Fine with me, if that means the Ethics Committee report is back on the table. EJG
There are 15 CABINETS in the U.S. government, each headed by a secretary chosen by the president. The cabinets are organizations of specialists with skills and responsibilities to manage the nation, not merely be loyal to the president. In fact, that should disqualify a candidate. JW
I don’t feel sorry for my Democrat friends who’re frustrated by the ELECTION, but I understand it. Republicans have repeatedly seen qualified candidates lose to Democrats, whose only platform is more spending with no real results. My frustration has lasted for years, and I don’t see change for New Mexico. RG
President-elect Donald Trump denied his allegiance to PROJECT 2025 during the campaign. He said he knew nothing about it, and now he is fully behind it. How can anyone believe anything he says? BH
President Joe Biden’s missiles aren’t for Ukraine or Russia. Biden’s ATTACKING THE PRESIDENCY of President-elect Donald Trump. Democrats would burn America and its people to the ground if it would destroy Trump, leaving a path to socialism. Exploiting war, just as good. Democrats’ motto should be “power and party at the expense of citizens and country.” MM
Thanks to the U.S. OPEN BORDER, the Mexican cartels are so financially strong that the Mexican government is too scared to stand up to them. It looks like the use of the U.S. military to invade Mexico might be the only viable solution. Thanks, President Joe Biden for your thoughtful border policy. GT
Why is it that scientists and computer engineers can fly Voyager 1 several billion miles from Earth, but they cannot STOP SCAMMERS from stealing people’s identities and credit card information? JL
Regarding: “Crying fowl on pigeon control measure” (Nov. 22 Journal): Is Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn for real? PIGEONS spread all kinds of diseases and problems and there is a way to get rid of them by locating their nesting places and eliminating them. Killing them as adults doesn’t work and feeding them is against the law in big cities around the world. KKW
Regarding “Falling through the cracks” (Nov. 23 Journal): HEART-WRENCHING story about families that “fell through the cracks.” However, perhaps they made the cracks themselves and dove in headfirst? DS
Regarding “Falling through the cracks” (Nov. 23 Journal): Why did this family come to Albuquerque from Oklahoma? Because Mayor Tim Keller’s HOMELESS-FRIENDLY policies and free voucher housing promises? Are they trying to find jobs? Adding to our economy? I think not, they just want a handout. CS
SPEAKUP! is the best part of the Sunday Journal. It’s the section we always read first. It’s a chance for us to see actual community members’ opinions as to what is going on in our community. SM
A possible intended consequence of the federal government PRINTING MONEY it does not have is inflation, which increases the cost of health care, gives opportunity for politicians to place more people on the government dole and secures a perpetual voter base for blue states like New Mexico. An endless cycle. GH
Regarding “’Overwhelming support’ for Medicaid Forward” (Nov. 26 Journal): MEDICAID FORWARD is going to force state employees onto this program to save money. I’ve never heard a rob Peter to pay Paul scenario in such a unrealistic manner. JMW
Most politicians wait until they are in office before breaking CAMPAIGN PROMISES. President-elect Donald Trump and his team claimed Project 25 would not be part of his presidency. MC
