SpeakUp!: Unprofessional behavior isn't productive during a health care crisis

Published Modified

Regarding “New Mexico’s physician shortage is anything but ‘propaganda’” (Jan. 10, Journal): Such amazingly unprofessional and arrogant responses and questions from Rep. Eleanor Chávez and Rep. Elizabeth “Liz” Thomson, both D-Albuquerque, regarding the critical doctor shortage in N.M. What world do they live in? This behavior is not what we expect of our STATE LEADERSHIP in resolving this serious problem. Where are the adults? And they are our representatives. ML

Regarding “New Mexico’s physician shortage is anything but ‘propaganda’” (Jan. 10, Journal): The opinion piece by Dr. Villas-Adams clearly reveals how DEMOCRATS ARE DESTROYING the health care system in this state. The complete destruction is not overnight but is coming. A government-run health system is their goal. If anyone is interested in what that will look like, call a doctor. GH

Regarding “I’m trying to buy a concert ticket, not an ocean liner” (Jan. 13 Journal): I had the same experience as Marc Bonem being SCAMMED purchasing an Albuquerque concert ticket. I went online to the concert website. I blinked and found out too late that I was on a ticket scammer site that charged a 40% fee. No refunds. KKW

Regarding “Eliminating personal income taxes isn’t a radical proposition at all” (Jan. 14, Journal): Elaine Sena Cortez’s article ignores the fact that states that have no INCOME TAXES have high property taxes and consumer taxes. These taxes, which increase each year, are a greater burden for low- or fixed-income people. A graduated tax is still needed. DPP

Currently there are no term limits for ALBUQUERQUE MAYOR. With elections coming up this November, I am getting increasingly nervous that more candidates have not thrown their names in the hat. It’s known Mayor Tim Keller will run again. We need some moderate opposing candidates. RF

Our MAYOR is right about this: We will all tell our kids about his ideas; it just won’t be anywhere near as flattering as he thinks in his head. TT

My heart breaks for the people in LOS ANGELES. New Mexicans know that devastating wildfires are not an “if,” they are a “when.” So, when will we stop electing liberals who mismanage our forests and water, and then pass the buck when disaster strikes? AN

The Los Angeles Fire Department did not run out of water; it lost water pressure due to the increased rate of use. The mayor did not cut the roughly $800M a year LAFD BUDGET, she actually approved increases, with funds being added to other areas of LAFD. The GOP needs to do better, be better. KE

Given the poor leadership here in N.M., and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s desire to follow in the footsteps of CALIFORNIA, I’m wondering will we have adequate water pressure in our fire hydrants? CH

The issue of ABORTION, which is women’s health care, is very simple: If you don’t agree with abortion, don’t ever have it done yourself. But don’t tell others what to do. Mind your own business. EN

Regarding “NM Supreme Court strikes down anti-abortion ordinances adopted by local governments” (Jan. 9, Journal): The old saying still applies, against ABORTION? Don’t have one. FW

Regarding the $1.9 million severance “earned” by Western New Mexico University President JOE SHEPARD: I thought exorbitant, unconscionable payouts by public education institutions in N.M. was limited to sports coaches. DR

The idiom “you get what you pay for” is very true with ABQ RIDE and I would be glad to return to the pre-zero-fare days when there was a nominal fee to ride but buses almost always showed up as scheduled, unlike nowadays when routes are skipped daily. BV

Regarding: “Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada’s impactful legacy is no joke” (Jan. 10, Journal): I am truly impressed by Bernalillo COUNTY COMMISSIONER Steven Michael Quezada’s accomplishments as county commissioner. I hope he considers staying in N.M. politics in the future. Governor, anyone? MW

The current administration in our WHITE HOUSE punished the country during its first 60 days and is punishing it again during its last 60 days. What’s not to love? JEH

I was glad that former President Jimmy Carter survived to see much of President Joe Biden’s term. He can now rest in peace knowing that Biden passed him to become the new WORST PRESIDENT in American history. RIP President Jimmy Carter. EC

As we reflect on former President Jimmy Carter’s 45th anniversary of his post-presidency, we can’t help but wonder what President Joe BIDEN’S LEGACY will be in 2070. The uncertainty adds a layer of intrigue to our contemplation. Carter’s legacy will live as a humanitarian, while Biden’s legacy will live as its counterpoint. With his limited time, Joe faces an urgent need to redeem himself, much less match Carter’s integrity. FS

Republicans, you can’t claim to be the party of law and order and allow President-elect Donald Trump to pardon JAN. 6 RIOTERS. It isn’t a matter of “free speech,” it is a matter of every convicted rioter vandalizing the Capitol, wielding weapons against law enforcement, causing injury and fomenting violence. Stop this criminal insanity. AH

President-elect DONALD TRUMP should be examined and interviewed for historical and research purposes. Not because he’s smart, or a good president or a good man, by any definition. But because he has gotten away with so much with no conscience at all. CC

President Joe Biden sold off BORDER WALL MATERIALS, which were actually liquidated per a bill submitted by Republican Mike Rogers of Alabama in 2023. The bill passed, and the materials were sold well before the election. This skewed info is what the un-fact-checked X and Facebook will let loose. MH
