TOP OF MIND: Do you think the ongoing mass migrations to the U.S. can produce a windfall for the nation or is it more likely to ruin America?
Top of Mind is a weekly question about an issue affecting New Mexicans.
LAST WEEK’S QUESTION:
Do you think the ongoing mass migrations to the U.S. can produce a windfall for the nation or is it more likely to ruin America?
“My mother was an immigrant. She came to the U.S. legally and didn’t receive or expect any handouts. She had a sponsor who made sure she would make it. She got her green card so she could work and after 10 years she became a U.S. citizen, so she could vote. She also learned to speak English. I don’t have a problem with people wanting to come to the U.S., but do it legally, have a sponsor, get a work permit, and assimilate yourself to this country. The American Dream is attainable, but it takes work. We need immigration reform now.”

“It will ruin America just like everything the Biden administration has purposely done. The people from the variety of countries coming in will never assimilate with the majority of the country, not to mention the terrorists coming in that are certainly out to ruin America.”
— David Woodward Albuquerque
“Being an immigrant myself, I cannot be against immigration because that has been the bulwark of progress of this 250-plus-year-old nation. Mass migration is a political ploy by U.S. politicians to build vote banks. Political sympathizers encourage mass migration, wearing the garb of human rights, posing as saviors of the tortured masses from other countries, then leverage this to stay in power … while the U.S. — once called ‘God’s own country’ — undergoes denudation of wealth, natural resources and all other elements essential to keep a nation alive. …”

“There are positive aspects of immigration that get lost in overheated political rhetoric. The U.S. needs workers and workers pay taxes, for example. Mass immigration puts stress on border resources, but is unlikely to ruin America. Congress should pass comprehensive immigration reform, but they don’t even talk about it. Shameful.”
— Mark Yarnelle Albuquerque
“Allowing unchecked, mass migration cuts to the very core of are we or are we not a nation of laws. It’s past overdue to better control our borders. Major U.S. cities are already fearing bankruptcy because of the huge number of immigrants depleting city resources. Stopping this lunacy starts at the federal level.”
— Dave Coulie Albuquerque
“Mass migration is an unsustainable situation for all legal, taxpaying Americans to be forced to tolerate. Drugs, terrorists, criminals and thieves have a free pass into the country with no accountability or monitoring. Time to put up the wall and vote for politicians that will work for Americans.”
