Top of Mind: Should Albuquerque leaders proceed with a plan to begin construction of a soccer stadium at Balloon Fiesta Park this winter?
Albuquerque Chief Administrative Officer Lawrence Rael, left, uses a map in March to show where within Balloon Fiesta Park a soccer stadium could be located.
Top of Mind is a weekly question about an issue affecting New Mexicans.
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION
Given her proposed rule mandating more electric vehicles on new car lots, should Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham use only EVs on New Mexico’s roadways?
“Absolutely she should drive or be driven in a BEV. In addition, the New Mexico Automobile Franchise Act needs to be eliminated. New car dealers are auto repair shops that sell cars on this side. They no longer provide a meaningful service that needs special legislative protection.”
— Steven Brady, Rio Rancho
“Absolutely! The governor should be traveling in an EV for every official event within New Mexico. She should also consider not using aircraft unless time is of the essence.”
— Phyllis Martinez, Albuquerque
“Both MLG’s vehicle — 13 mpg — and her buddy Biden’s -9 mpg — demonstrate green hypocrisy at its worse. She wants the general public to accept her unworkable mandates but she’s exempt? How about having both ride electric bikes when in town and EV Fords the rest of the time?”
— Key Jones, Santa Fe
“Politicians should always be held to the same standards as the citizens they purport to serve. Of course the governor should ride an EV in her travels around N.M. Also, any plan to buy a $9 million jet for her use should be abandoned.”
— Paul Gessing, Albuquerque
“Why would you’d expect Her Majesty to travel like the rest of us on N.M. roadways?! I would presume it would be beneath her dignity as ‘a royal’ from an old family name that once traveled here from a medieval European empire.”
— Harry Hart, Albuquerque
“Yes, I think MLG should use only EV vehicles including her chauffeured driven limousine. I also believe that the $9 million jet that the taxpayers bought her should be grounded until it can be powered by EV or solar. Do as I say, not as I do.”
— Richard Cordeiro, Albuquerque
