TOP OF MIND: Should New Mexico's congressional delegation support a pathway to statehood for Puerto Rico?

Published Modified

Top of Mind is a weekly question about an issue affecting New Mexicans.

LAST WEEK’S QUESTION:

With protests erupting across the nation and hundreds of people on the U.S. Terrorist Watchlist entering the country illegally, are you becoming leery of being in large public settings?

“It is inevitable that there will be more terrorist attacks in the United States that result from our failed immigration controls. The Biden administration has let in almost as many foreigners illegally as Ellis Island did lawfully in 60 years. Large public gatherings will be primary attack targets.”

— Dave Coulie, Albuquerque

“No, I will not let terrorists or a bunch of unruly kids force me into my home cowering. I will continue to live my life. My question is how are they getting those numbers on how many terrorists are crossing our borders illegally and not stopping them at the border?”

— Robert Wayne, Albuquerque

“No. 1 threat is from right-wing domestic terrorists, according to the FBI. I do feel uncomfortable at gatherings, but that’s due to the fact of gun-toting hotheads. Guns everywhere. Nowhere is safe anymore.”

— Jim Baker, Albuquerque

“As I survey the current landscape, America’s biggest enemies are other Americans. We should all be cautious and alert. Our lifetime is not promised, and we should make to the best of it while we are here. I choose to live with faith and not fear.”

— Jay Leach, Albuquerque

“I stopped attending large gatherings a long time back. This is gun-happy America and the nuts cases are armed.”

— Carole Eberhrdt, Albuquerque

“I am much more concerned about homegrown crazies with guns.”

— Duane Meneely, Albuquerque

“I am much more concerned about someone’s armed domestic dispute or shootings by angry teenagers. Remember, the slaughter in Vegas a few years ago, and the murders at an El Paso Walmart were not terrorist attacks, but carried out by our own citizens.”

— Linda Douglas, Las Cruces

“What makes me leery of being in large public settings are U.S. citizens who shoot guns in public settings.”

— Karen Navarro Albuquerque
