Albuquerque Academy athletics garners national ranking
Albuquerque Academy’s Elliot Hickey wins the Class 4A boys 800-meter run during the 4A/5A State Track and Field Championships at the UNM Track-Soccer Complex. The Chargers athletic program just garnered a national ranking.
Albuquerque Academy already was one of the state’s winningest schools, but the 2024-25 school year saw the Chargers bag a record 10 sports blue trophies.
And with those 10 comes some national recognition. MaxPreps named Academy the 13th best high school athletics program in the country for the previous year.
Academy swept state titles in golf, tennis, swimming and cross country, and also won state in boys soccer and boys track and field.
Cherry Creek High (Colorado) the national winner. Academy was up from 40th the previous school year.
MaxPreps’ ranking is based on championships and runner-up finishes, among other criteria. It issues points based on the size of the state, the popularity of the sport, the school’s enrollment division, and the number of schools also in that division. Academy competes in Class 4A.
