Albuquerque Athletics Track Gianni Chavez earned his second USA Track & Field All American award Friday by placing fifth in the 8-Under boys 800-meter run at the USA Track & Field National Youth Outdoor Championship at Icahn Stadium in New York.

Chavez ran the 800 in 2:53.55, a personal best.

The top eight finishers at the national meet earn USATF All American awards.

Chavez also ran the 400-meter on Thursday. He placed 12th and posted a time of 1:23.85.

On Saturday, Chavez competes in the 1500, where he's a 3-seed.

At last weekends New Mexico USATF Association Championship meet, Chavez won both the 800 (2:58.33) and the 1500 (6:06.11).

This is Chavez's second time earning a USATF All American award. His first was at last year's National Youth Outdoor meet where he ran the 800.

Chavez's older brother, Benito Chavez placed 15th in the 11-12 boys long jump, and 21st in both the 100 and 200 at this year's national meet.
