PREP WRESTLING
Albuquerque Metro Championships start this weekend, with some new faces
Roster features schools such as Valencia, Bernalillo and others that have never competed at metros
The Albuquerque Metro Championships are Friday and Saturday at La Cueva, and there is a new wrinkle.
Much like the expansion of teams from outside the metro area in basketball, metros for the first time will feature schools that ordinarily have never competed in this tournament.
That list is headed by Las Cruces High, but also includes the likes of Valencia, Moriarty, Bernalillo and Los Lunas. St. Pius and Albuquerque Academy, plus Rio Rancho and Cleveland, join the 13 Albuquerque Public Schools programs for the 2026 tournament.
Action begins Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.
The finals are tentatively scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Saturday.
